As avid hikers we had the opportunity to take this bag out on a trail at our local forest preserve. The bag comes in charcoal or red clay colors and we got later, which boasts high visibility and sporty style. Built with Nitro's innovative reACTIV suspension system, the Black Diamond Nitro Pack features a built-in, lightweight aluminum frame, 3-dimensionally moving hipbelt, and shoulder straps that are linked together at the bottom to evenly distribute weight. While the OpenAir back panel and soft, breathable 3D mesh on the hipbelt and shoulder straps offers robust support and comfort. So after hiking with this pack for about 2 hours our backs felt good and where only slightly sweaty, even though we packed it full and included a small picnic of food and beverage. A hydration-compatible pack, the Internal hydration sleeve holds a reservoir (sold separately) so you can hydrate on the go. The Nitro also has a zippered front panel opening for easy access to bulky items and a front stash pocket for rainwear or quick layers. This feature came in handy since when I needed to stash my wet jacket and didn't want to soak the items inside. Other cool features include a hipbelt pocket, front compression stretch pocket and side stretch pockets which provides great storage for water bottles, cell phones, iPods, snacks etc. The bag also has tool loops and compression straps that can accommodate trekking poles or an ice axe.
